Newspaper bankruptcy filings are coming fast and furious these days, so the news that The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News are seeking Chapter 11 protection was not exactly a bolt out of the blue. But very sad nonetheless.
Yes, the publisher says the protection is so that the newspapers' debt can be reorganized and otherwise it will be business as usual, but I know better and this is merely another down tick in the slow and agonizing death of two great big-city newspapers.
I toiled for the Daily News for 21 mostly happy years in the white tower on North Broad Street and take some comfort in Will Bunch's inside baseball take while believing more than ever that my recent thoughts are all too accurate.
