There is much boo-hooing in the blogosphere over Plaxico Burress possibly facing a mandatory three-year sentence if he is convicted on charges stemming from the bad boy New York Giants receiver accidentally shooting himself in the thigh in a Manhattan nightclub.
Burress should be glad that there is no law against stupidity because he'd be facing a life sentence. And while three years does seem to be on the harsh side, there's a reason why New York City has such tough gun laws: They have proved to be a major detriment to major crime, and the city's murder rate is at an historic low as a result.
