Teeing Off on Wetlands

In a development reminiscent of President Reagan's infamous contention that catsup should be considered a vegetable for the purposes of federal nutrition standards, Interior Secretary Gale Norton has announced that the devastating loss of America's wetlands has finally been checked because of unprecented gains.

However, she then had to admit that most of the gains were because golf course water hazards, farm impoundments and other artifically created ponds are now being considered wetlands.

Field and Stream magazine, for one, is not amused.
