Unless you're really into the vroom vroom thing, plug-in hybrid and electric cars have a benefit beyond fuel economy: They're quiet. Too quiet, it turns out, posing a threat to pedestrians children and bicyclists like Yours Truly. So expect the next-generation of fuel thirsty cars to emit beeps and other sound effects.
