Cartoon du Jour
One of the small joys of my childhood was thumbing through the New Yorker each week to see the latest creepy but funny cartoon by the inestimable Charles Addams, who is the subject of a new show at the Museum of the City of New York.
Addams, for you younguns, drew the recurring characters who became known as The Addams family practically from the beginning of his career in the early 1930s. They, of course, became the basis for two live-action television series, two cartoon series, three motion pictures, and a play that opens next week on Broadway.
