It's a Mad, Mad World

It’s no secret that Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor are really screwed up places, but what is really scary is how many other countries also are on the verge of collapse.

The Fund for Peace has compiled its 2006 list of 28 “failed states” that could disintegrate into chaos because of war, natural disaster, epidemic and other factors:

Sudan
Democratic Republic of Congo
Cote d’Ivoire
Iraq
Zimbabwe
Chad
Somalia
Haiti
Pakistan
Afghanistan
Guinea
Liberia
Central African Republic
North Korea
Burundi
Yemen
Sierra Leone
Mynmar (Burma)
Bangladesh
Nepal
Uganda
Nigeria
Uzbekistan
Rwanda
Sri Lanka
Ethiopia
Colombia
Kyrgyzstan
