The Truth About Iraq II: Talking Pointy Heads

The Bush administration is so desperate about the Mess in Mesopotamia that it has ordered all Cabinet level departments to include its rose-colored talking points about Iraq in speeches regardless of the topic and has distributed examples of how this absurdity can be accomplished.

The results of this Orwellian initiative are predictably strange, says the Washington Post in a story which cites a sample introduction for use by Agriculture Department flunkies:

But before I begin discussing the productivity of American agriculture, I'd like to take a moment to talk about a nation that is just now beginning to rebuild its own agricultural production.

Iraq is part of the "fertile crescent" of Mesopotamia. It is there, in around 8,500 to 8,000 BC, that mankind first domesticated wheat, there that agriculture was born, In recent years however, the birthplace of farming has been in trouble. . . .

It sure has.
