The Story That Almost Wasn't. And Still Isn't

If you didn't listen to a Nina Totenberg report on National Public Radio, saw a lone Washington Post report or hadn't read Kiko's House or another current affairs blog late last week, then you probably don't know that retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor blew the socks off a Georgetown University audience by suggesting that the U.S. might be headed toward a dictatorship if right-wing Republicans continue to attack the judiciary.

Smug is not in my blogger repertoire, so I take no satisfaction that folks like myself are keeping this important story alive. Jack Shafer explains why that is so in a Slate article.
