OCLC Wants To Steal Your Library

Libraries are the intellectual and social centers of many a university and community, so you would probably be a surprised to know that they are under siege not just because of the usual culprits -- decreased funding and the pressure to digitize their collections -- but by a rapacious for-profit corporation that originally was created to help libraries electronically catalog books as they moved away from those banks of musty old oak and brass card drawers.

To make matters worse, libraries seem blithely unaware that the raptor -- the Online Library Cataloging Center -- is well into executing a power grab that eventually could result in seizing control of the libraries from the institutions that run them.
