Philly Rolls Out The Red Carpet For Sarah

Some people seemed genuinely shocked that the world's most famous hockey mom has joined Santa Claus and Mike Schmidt, among other celebs, in being roundly booed by Philadelphia sports fans.

Despite pleas from the scoreboard at the Bailout . . . er, Wachovia Center for fans to make nice, they predictably showed the back of their hands to Sarah Palin, and would have mooned her if they could have gotten away with it, when the vice presidential wannabe was introduced and helped to drop the first puck at the Flyers' home opener against the New York Rangers last night.

Ed Snider, the Flyers' deep-pocketed owner and giver to right-wing Republican causes, should have known that not even music cranked up to deafening levels could have drowned out the boos.

Say what you will about Philly sports fans, but they know a phony when they see one.
