'Bush Should Follow Caesar's Example'

A writer for a conservative national security group has called on President Bush to declare himself "President for Life" and remove all Arabs from the Middle East so he can "repopulate the country with Americans," recommendations so over the top that they could be mistaken for satire. Alas, I do not think that they are.

The author of this screed is Philip Atkinson, who argued in a post at the Family Security Matters website that Bush should have followed the model of Julius Caesar in Iraq, slaughtering all Iraqis who did not comply with his demands:

"He could then follow Caesar's example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court."
The Family Security Matters website has recently removed all articles by Atkinson and references to the writer, who is credited in the commentary as a contributing editor.
