Another Great Joy Extinguished

Even after months of sectarian violence, Shiites and Sunnis alike still visited that Ghazil animal market in Baghdad.

An extraordinary array of creatures were on sell there, but the future of the market is in doubt after a bomb blast detonated by a man posing as a bird seller killed 15 people and wounded 50. It was the third such incident since June.

Reported the New York Times:
"In the chaos after the blast, snakes slithered through bloody streets where animal carcasses were jumbled with human remains. Exotic birds flew off as rescue workers tried to aid the wounded."
