The surprise hit of the Torino Winter Olympics seems to be curling.
I used to think that curling was only slightly more interesting than watching paint dry. But the mens' and womens' round-robin tournaments have been getting ample airplay in the U.S. and I find myself, well . . . downright fascinated by the techniques and subtleties of a sport hitherto relegated to wisecracks by stand-up comedians.
Warning: The U.S. women, who had a pretty good run, are out of the tournament after falling to Great Britain. The men are sweeping on to the semi-finals. The finals are this weekend.
NBCOlympics.com has put together a comprehensive website on curling here.
