Is the Swedish social welfare state finally coming to an end? That seems possible in the wake of the Moderate Party, a right-of-center coalition, booting the Social Democrats, the longtime center-left party, in voting on Sunday.
The Social Democrats have governes Sweden alone or in coalitions for an extraordinary 65 of the last 74 years. Voters, it seems, are growing weary of a welfare system with generous benefits that is underwritten with some of the highest taxes in the world and encourages people to be lazy.
