This post and the next two are about the growing fracture in the American conservative movement. This was long overdue, mind you, given many of the policies of the Bush administration. And before Democrats get all smug, it should be noted that conservativism and by extension the Republican Party ultimately will be stronger for the bloodletting.
That is the view of veteran conservative David Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union, who socks it to President Bush in a radio interview for abandoning the movement's key tenets. (After clicking on the link, scroll down to the blurb on Keene and click on the RealAudio link.)
Keene hastens to add that just because King George is selling them down the river, conservatives are not about to defect to the Democratic Party. What could happen is that they'll fail to vote in sufficent numbers this fall and Republican control of Congress may be jeopardized.
