The Speech & Lowered Expectations

Barack Obama as centrist was on full display. An eloquent and effective speech that nevertheless had low expectations and will change few minds. His best line was holding insurance companies accountable and not demonizing them. Second best line: Comparing the public option to public universities.

And considering how important health-care reform is, a reminder of how utterly pathetic the opposition has become. The guy who gave the Republican response to the speech is a heart surgeon birther who has been successfully sued three times for medical malpractice while South Carolina GOP pols further covered themselves in excrement with Joe Wilson's nationally-televised hissy fit.

In fact, the party has become one big pre-existing condition.
