Sunday Catholic Blogging -- I

The top photograph is of the palatial Our Lady of the Angels, a $180 million cathedral that opened in 2002. It is an opulent testament to the wealth of the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the power of its leader, Cardinal Roger Mahoney.

The bottom photograph is of a Sisters of Bethany nun who lives and works with the poor. These elderly nuns will be evicted from their convent so that the Archdiocese can sell it to help pay for Mahoney's $660 million settlement in hundreds of clergy abuse cases.

Shaun...many thanks for picking up this story. The tragedy of what's happening to the Sisters of Bethany cannot be overstated.

Just a quick aside, the final link in your post looks like it might be missing and ending tag.
