Big Bang in Baghdad, Big Whimper in D.C.

With sectarian violence raging out of control, including a weekend of horrific bombings that killed over 250 Shiites and Sunnis, and the first wave of President Bush's "surge" troops arriving in country, the full Senate finally got down to business yesterday on what is indisputably the most pressing business it faces -- debating the war in Iraq.

By the time the little smoked that was generated had cleared, the Democrats who wanted to debate the war had been defeated and the Republicans who wanted to stifle debate to protect their president were victorious.
And so the first major Congressional challenge to President Bush’s inept handling of a war that has become a never ending catastrophe ended with a whimper.

Words cannot express my anger over this bunch of losers, so I’ll turn things over to Joe Gandelman, who has a comprehensive and non-hysterical roundup at The Moderate Voice.
