Senator Carl Levin, the Michigan Democrat, has announced that he will hold hearings on the Iraq war soon after becoming chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee next month and is prepared to use subpoenas to get relevant documents from the Pentagon.
That's a swell idea, but Levin ought to save some of those subpoenas for the many Democrats who failed to exercise their constitutionally-mandated oversight role as the war became a calamity.
