Back in early July, I
reported that the Department of Veterans Affairs had refused to allow the widow of Sergeant Patrict Stewart, a Nevada soldier killed in Afghanistan, to place a five-pointed Wiccan star inside a circle on his memorial plaque.
The federal government does not recognize Wicca as a religion, but state officials have agreed to allow the image on the plaque because the feds had no authority over state veterans’ cemeteries.
