Terror Alerts: We Be at 'High'; the U.K. at 'Critical'

The terror alert level has been raised to "high" in the U.S. and "critical" in the U.K. after British authorities said they arrested people with strong ties to Al Qaeda in connection with a terrorist plot to blow up aircraft flying to the U.S. using a Gatorade-like concoction that would be detonated with iPods or cell phones. Arrests also have been made in Pakistan.

More here, there and everywhere.
Some personal observations:

Why is it that we seem to take terrorist plots much more seriously when they're uncovered by the Brits?

Why is it that the major victories against terrorists have been scored by cops with streets smarts and not soldiers with the most lethal of weaponry?

And why is it that no one is thanking those 130,000 U.S. troops in Iraq for giving those Gatorade-wielding radicals such a good whupping?

Just asking.

Because of the loooong history of U.S. officials crying wolf and their seeming inability to distinguish between amateurs who wear funny hats and play army in Miami warehouses and credible threats.
