Damming The West: Why Last Century's Solutions Don't Address Today's Crises

Damming rivers for cheap water and cheap power seemed like a capital idea in the 20th century, and that's what happened in much of the western U.S. But the 21st century presents other realities.  Pro Publica's Abrahm Lustgarten has researched and written a compelling, in-depth piece rich with perspective (and irony) that has been abridged in The New York Times explaining why the great dams of the American West have run their course.  It is a must-read.
