For the first time in more than 85 years spanning the Great Depression, World War II and countlessintrigues, Little Orphan Annie will not appear today in a daily newspaper.
The "Annie" comic strip, which spawned a Broadway musical and Hollywood movies, was running in a mere 20 newspapers. The final Sunday strip will end with Daddy Warbucks uncertain over what happened to Annie in her latest run-in with the Butcher of the Balkans.
