President Poupon Does It Again. Again.

I may be wrong, but I don't recall people being outraged when President Bush cleared brush on the taxpayer's dime, ate buffalo wings at a barbeque or told an off-color joke to a visiting dignitary. But in keeping with these rancorous times, President Obama can't puff on a cigarette without some people getting their knickers in a knot.

Some of this faux outrage is beyond silly like the howls of protest when he put French mustard on a burger. Then there is his trip to Copenhagen to unsuccessfully pitch Chicago's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Since when is it wrong for a president to add his weight to an American city's bid for an international event? When that president is Obama and the city is Chicago, which gives the knotted knickers crowd an excuse to rail about how violent the Windy City is, Obama's real and imagined connections to sleazy pols and former domestic terrorists and, of course, that Reverend Wright fella.

Do you suppose there was outrage in Portugal and Japan because those nation's top leaders showed up to pitch bids by Madrid and Tokyo? And do you think that Brazilian President Lula was criticized before he too flew to Copenhagen and cinched Rio's bid, making it the first South American city to host the quadrennial games?

Of course there wasn't, but this is what happens when wackjobs hijack the Republican Party.
