Joe Paterno was one of the winningest coaches in major-college football and remains one of the oldest. But early in this decade the storied program went into eclipse, suffered several losing seasons, and there were calls for JoPa's head.
Then the program turned around and began winning again.
How did JoPa manage this feat? He didn't because he was literally kicked upstairs in what was, in effect, a bloodless coup.
