Two Monsters Intoxicated With Power

My capacity to be shocked has been considerably debilitated as a fuller accounting of the Bush Torture Regime has become known, but I have to admit to being somewhat fazed by the news that the architects of the CIA's so-called enhanced interrogation program had never carried out real interrogations, had done no relevant scholarship on them, had doctorates in unrelated areas, no foreign language skills and no expertise on Al Qaeda.

Should we be surprised that the terrorists and others tortured on their watch coughed up forced confessions but apparently little of value? Of course not.
But what Bruce Jessen and Bruce Mitchell did have was knowledge of the torture regime used by the Chinese Communists during the Korean War, as well as being opportunists intoxicated by power who had the ability to bullshit. Those things they apparently did very well.

More here.
