Jane Harman may be a woman, but boy does she have big cojones.
The California Democrat, who has long been deeply involved with intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli spy that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the way too powerful pro-Israel lobby in Washington.
This story has more angles than the Pentagon: Harman's deed was in return for greasing the skids for her getting the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee. (She didn't.) There is the question of whether she was being blackmailed. (Dunno.) And whether the Bush administration was wiretapping a congresswoman or the AIPAC crowd. (Ditto.)
But if the allegation is true (which Harman says it is not), then it's time for Jane to go bye-bye. Or perhaps she can seek political asylum in Israel.
