Donna the Buffalo may just be the best band you may never have heard of. While lacking the so-called requisite radio hit, this quintet performs 100 or so times a year and has built a substantial fanbase through its eclectic mix of rock, bluegrass, Cajun and folk. And its reputation for playing long and hard.
Rewind to the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, last Saturday night when The Herd, as its followers call the band, played to a small but enthusiastic house. Many bands would have done the minimum, but Donna the Buffalo pulled out the stops with a two-plus hour (and encore) show that was long on jams (yippee!) and a rich tapestry covering their 20-years on the road and in the studio.
