Dean Smith is not just another legendary basketball coach. He is a man of uncommon decency who was involved in the civil rights movement long before he coached the University of North Carolina to a gadzillion championships. That would seem to make Barack Obama a natural for his endorsement, but Smith and his wife are very private people when it comes to politics.
