I'm really more interested in whatever that dog is going to pull out of the sand, which I guess is the metaphor here. It's always the next disgusting thing that reporters (or bloggers) can pull out of the muck that makes us take notice.
If each side starts with a fixed list of gaffes, mistakes and secrets to be exposed, the winner is distinguished from the loser only by the timing.
