Fred W. McDarrah (1926-2007)
Veteran Village Voice photographer Fred W. McDarrah died in his sleep yesterday morning at age 81. Over a 50-year span, McDarrah documented the rise of the Beat Generation, the city’s postmodern art movement, its politicians, and its social protests.
This McDarrah sampler includes photos of (top) Bob Dylan at Sheridan Square Park, Greenwich Village, 1965, (middle) a gay pride march at the Stonewall uprising site, Greenwich Village, 1982, and (bottom) Democratic National Convention demonstrators at Chicago's Grant Park, 1968.
