'He Wanted to Die and Take Us With Him'

The good news from the wave of attempted terror attacks in London and Glasgow is that no one was killed. The bad news is that Islamic jihadist scum seem to be working harder than ever to try to achieve their sole aim in life -- To kill you and I and our children. And the war of words over anything having to do with the Global War on Terror burns on mightily.

Larry Johnson, the former CIA agent, security issue blogger and right-wing whipping boy, opined at No Quarter:

"As events unfold I'm simply asking that folks take a big deep breath and try to keep things in perspective. Are there jihadist extremists in the world who are willing to kill innocents? Absolutely. Are they amenable to negotiation? No. I am not in the, ‘have you hugged a terrorist today’ camp. However, we need to stop equating their hatred with actual capability.

"If [the] events at Glasgow prove to be linked to the two non-events . . . in London, then we should heave a sigh of relief. We may be witnessing the implosion of takfiri jihadists--religious fanatics who are incredibly inept. While I am not an explosives expert I am good friends with one of the world's foremost explosives experts. Propane tanks and petrol (gas for us Americans) can produce a dandy flame and a mighty boom but these are not the tools for making a car bomb long the lines of what we see detonating on a daily basis in Iraq."

Dr. Sanity responded to Johnson with a few well-chosen bites to his neck and those of other bloggers who go out of their way to create the impression that they're soft on terrorists:

"I wish I could tell you that the political left in this country was out of its friggin' mind . . . but I can't, because it is increasingly clear that if you could put all the combined synapses of all the above bloggers together you would not get a single logical or coherent thought about the war that is being waged against the West by the religion of peace. These bloggers and many of their readers are on a mission to go where no human has gone before. They are beyond mere denial and delusion; beyond psychosis even. I regularly treat schizophrenics who have more respect for reality."

Well sports fans, let's put this perspective and with this account from the Sunday Mail of attempts by a British policeman to extinguish the fires engulfing one of the attackers at the Glasgow airport:

"One man then left the car, pouring petrol over himself, while the second ran into the terminal carrying what witnesses described as firebombs. . . . He was wearing a red and white scarf around his head and neck and only his eyes were visible. . . . He was kicking out at people and was a human fireball. Then he collapsed to the ground on all fours and we watched as he burned for fully two minutes.

"I watched the guy burning. He still tried to attack a policeman. I was convinced he was trying to detonate something. He was on fire and he was still desperately trying to get into the boot. There were another two explosions. People all around were in tears and shouting and screaming at the man to lie down. An off-duty cop was hosing him down with a fire extinguisher and other people were shouting, 'let him burn.' He wasn't interested in being saved -- he wanted to die and take all of us with him."

I rest my case.
