It's a Boy! They're Hypocrites!

Let's be clear from the jump that I am very happy for Mary Cheney and her partner, Heather Poe, who are the proud parents of a newborn baby boy.
I have no problem with lesbians becoming impregnated so that they can have children, or gay men adopting children.

But as the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne (photo), dealing with soiled diapers is not going to be Mary's biggest problem.
That problem would be the religious right that the proud grandparents have sucked up to when it is politically prudent, an extremeist bunch that already has called the pregnancy “unconscionable” because Baby Cheney-Poe won’t have a daddy.

Writes Jill at Feministe:
"He may look innocent wrapped in a blanket and wearing a little cap, but we must remember that this is the child of homosexuals. Therefore, he deserves fewer protections and rights than the children of heterosexual parents, and should grow up being taught that his family is deviant, sick and undeserving of legal recognition. Thank goodness Vice President Cheney’s proud party is willing to stand up to these destroyers of traditional marriage. I’m sure he is very proud."
Pete Abel at Central Sanity reminds me of what a late great man once said while presiding at a baptism:
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — God damn it, you’ve got to be kind."

I don't agree. I have friends of all ages, & the ones where the kids are more well-rounded & have no issue are those who have grown up with a mother & father. Same-sex parenting & single-parenting environments are not good for the child. In fact, the most fucked up children I have met are from the same-sex parenting environment. As to why some people think such an environment is "good" for a child is beyond me.
