Wanna Kill Yourself? Get Out!

University and college administrations don't have a monopoly on knuckle-headed behavior, but they do occasionally elevate it to amazing levels. Take George Washington University. Please!

According to a story in the Washington Post, one Jordan Nott, a sophomore at the Washington, D.C., institution, checked himself into the university hospital one night in 2004, saying that he was depressed and considering suicide. Nott's crisis passed, but the university quickly cooked up a new one. He was informed that he faced charges of "endangering behavior," which violated student rules, suspended him, told him to pack up his stuff and leave campus, and warned him that he could be expelled pending adjudication of the charges.

Nott, who is now enrolled elsewhere, has sued GWU and would seem to have a great chance of bankrolling his future education and then some. In a statement, the university emphasized that it does not kick out most students who have suicidal thoughts.
