Update: The Story That Almost Wasn't , Still Isn't

There is now some additional heft behind retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's stinging fussilade last week on right-wing Republicans whose attacks the judiciary she ominously termed the "beginnings" of a dictatorship. (*)

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has now acknowledged a specific death threat against she and O'Connor.

Ginsburg, speaking recently in South Africa, noted ferocious opposition by some members of Congress to the idea of applying the concept of international law when looking at high court rulings.

It "is disquieting that they have attracted sizable support," Ginzburg said. "One not-so-small concern -- they fuel the irrational fringe."

CNN has the story here.
