He will probably get his clock cleaned by Clinton, but so what? It will be a lesson to the poorly educated angry white men backing him that his path is a political dead end. Nixon's Southern Strategy will finally meet its ignoble end, and the dead-enders following Trump will have to accept that while privilege ain't what it used to be. The GOP will have to change to survive, and so it probably will.Bscharlotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06667913621618808338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-89748287114667930502016-03-18T04:37:19.728-04:002016-03-18T04:37:19.728-04:00I laughed when you said Trump "clawed his way...I laughed when you said Trump "clawed his way to the top" because I realized, for the first time, that it is a badger he looks like - scary to think of that tenacity.

Trump doesn't answer to the elites or his followers, only himself - like he said recently, he would consult himself on foreign policy issues. The narcissism will never cease.

America was founded by individuals who wanted freedom and equality. Trump claims to want to make America great again but physical violence has no place in a country of freedom and equality. The Republican party is a party with refluent values which are reflected in their regressive behavior as a father figure who is going to rule the children not treat them like the adults they are.

You say their choice is between "betraying Trump's supporters and betraying the country". I feel they have already betrayed the country and are on very dangerous ground if they betray his supporters now. There's nothing I hate worse than playing games with those who make up the rules as they go and that's where the Republicans continue to head. So much for democracy in America. It's a shame.Laura in IAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16993058879730411225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-11085217997484094352016-03-18T04:24:39.021-04:002016-03-18T04:24:39.021-04:00Nice piece. Nicely written (as usual!)
But is...Good article. Nicely written (as usual!)

But isn’t there a 3rd option? Officially fragment the Republican party, now. It’s too late to field a 3rd party presidential candidate before the convention, but if the old guard (and their followers) simply disavows the party of Trump, pulls out both physically and financially, then announces plans for a 3rd party that will be ready for the off-year elections, wouldn’t that be a higher road for them to travel? The Trump supporters would not be betrayed, as The Donald will get the nomination - and the country will not be betrayed as The Donald, who probably doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in Hell of beating Hillary in a general election anyway, will surely fail without the old guard support and money. The schism in the Party is just too deep not to break it apart eventually, so do it now rather than wait until after their utter failure at the polls. If the Party tries to gut it out with Trump as the figurehead, I would bet that will cause fallout in the congressional elections - so the Repubbies could lose the House and Senate, as well. Better to give their guys in Congress a life raft to jump into, rather than have them go down with the SS Trump and let the Dems take over completely. That way, the Trumps and the new Repubbies, may still have a majority, or at least enough votes to block anything the Dems (Socialists) will try to do, under Hillary.

I predict that a Clinton-Drumpf contest will result in a 65-35 win for Hillary, with the lowest voter percentage turnout of any presidential election, ever.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-18438451346067482632016-03-16T06:08:56.818-04:002016-03-16T06:08:56.818-04:00I've known for decades that it's just a ma...I've known for decades that it's just a matter of time and now that time has arrived. On one level this seems deserved and appropriate, but---People like Cronkite and Fred Friendly, and so on, used to be unifying figure.
