Heavens, closing the schools on the first day of deer hunting? That tells me there is too much danger of wild shots, let alone now being the possible hunted. A hunter has a much greater chance of being shot by accident. Clearing the woods makes a man with a gun stand out.

This guy may be far more clever than first thought Horrible to think they will be combing this area for years and keep residents living in fear if they leave without finding him.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-73916460360790990482014-10-02T08:57:51.615-04:002014-10-02T08:57:51.615-04:00I read with interest , the ed. about the Pa state ...I read with interest , the ed. about the Pa state police Botched Man hunt. And many of the points concerning the poor economy In the
northeast were true, But I was shocked at the writers comments concerning the Pa, hunting season. The writer does not seem to realize Just how important hunting is to the NE economy. He should know that until the Pa Game commission dropped the ball and stopped doing a proper job of game managment , that Hunting was the single largest industry in the state.

Hunting not only contributes to the rural economy but to the state and fed. coffers. His comment about the orgy of slaughter of wildlife seems to have come from the heart of a tree hugging veggitarian not the mind of a well informed journelist ThanksMountainmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-31155223253247921082014-10-02T08:48:44.366-04:002014-10-02T08:48:44.366-04:00I hope they get to him before he kills someone els...I hope they get to him before he kills someone else. I know the area well, and you have pinned it.

In the late '50s a migration of fine NYC musicians moved into the area...Bob Newman was the first, i think. He was a wonderful NYC tenor player and he booked great NYC bands into Mt. Airy Lodge for many years. I am out there regularly both in the Deer Head area and working at Lehigh University in Bethlehem and at a great jazz club in Easton, The Lafayette Bar. Bethlehem was once the busiest steel city in the United States, and when the U.S. steel industry was sold to the lowest international bidders it became a pioneer rust belt victim. Long story short...it tanked. Totally. The only thing really working there was Lehigh. It's been "saved" now by a gigantic casino which has quite literally been built on the rusting carcass of the Bethlehem Steel works. They didn't even tear the factory and steel works down, they just hung a gigantic "Sands" sign up on the fossilized bones of the old industrial dinosaur and built cheap-looking hptels and parking garages around it.

Anyway...nice post. I'll check out your book

Thank you.

AGArthur Gilroynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-72816497837395840722014-10-01T16:29:45.517-04:002014-10-01T16:29:45.517-04:00A reader at a blog where this story is cross-poste...A reader at a blog where this story is cross-posted reminds us that:

Point of comparison.
