I have spent much of 2018 actively suppressing the optimism that keeps bubbling up around the accumulation of evidence that Trump is, among many other awful things, a criminal.

The events commencing with the Blue Wave are too much to try to suppress. That is why I initiated a fifth subsection in my timeline. The first four are: The Prequel (1980~June 2015), The Campaign (June 2015~January 2017), The Presidency (January 2017~January 2108), and Investigation and Pushback (January 2018~November 2018). The fifth is On The Run (November 2018 to the present.) Trump may not go down next week, month or year, but he is going down and his will be a very hard landing.Shaun Mullenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14964214385216513188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-27638823393779775072018-12-09T12:21:20.444-05:002018-12-09T12:21:20.444-05:00I was trained as a social scientist in my doctoral...I was trained as a social scientist in my doctoral program. In the social sciences the 95 per cent confidence level is used in accepting or rejecting a hypothesis -- you need to have reached 95 certainty to say your conclusions are likely sound (and hence, in most cases, worthy of publication). We cannot really assign a numerical value to your hypothesis that Trump is "toast," but my gut tells me you have met the 95 percent level of certainty; your writing is very persuasive.

But if a researcher has merely reached, say, 96 certainty (the value is determined using probability stats), then there is a 4 per cent chance the conclusion is wrong. (This is why scientific conclusions are alway tentative and subject to later verification or modification or falsification).

My point is that while Trump certainly seems like toast, we should at least remain open to the possibility that he can somehow weather all of this and then actually win another term in office. Adam Davidson, a smart guy who writes for The New Yorker, seems to agree with you in his latest article but adds: "There are complex political and even psychological processes that will determine whether Trump will be removed from office in disgrace or will go on to a second term."

I never thought Trump would be elected. I don't think he will be elected again. I was proved wrong once. I want to at least acknowledge the possibility I can be proved wrong again.

See: https://www.newyorker.com/news/swamp-chronicles/the-ineptitude-of-donald-trumps-co-conspiratorsBscharlotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06667913621618808338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-79702812884356136862018-12-09T11:50:43.148-05:002018-12-09T11:50:43.148-05:00Damn, what a new year this is going to be.
