Archaeological data shows they were here for upwards of 12,000 years.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-31231550479602844722009-09-17T18:08:50.585-04:002009-09-17T18:08:50.585-04:00I was just looking at some land records that perta...I was just looking at some land records that pertain to the Tocks Island project. It is facinating stuff.<br />There are some residential projects going up on the PA side of the river that are just shameful with respect to flooding IMHO.Ameliahttp://www.ameliapearn.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-47799131379359416422009-01-15T11:09:00.000-05:002009-01-15T11:09:00.000-05:00My family owned 28 acres of Tocks Island and was b...My family owned 28 acres of Tocks Island and was bought out through emminent domain in the 1970's. With the cancellation of the dam in 1992 they should offer those families a buyback option. The underlying reason for the Emminent Domain never materialized making that transaction suspect.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-8041575698574178202007-12-29T22:54:00.000-05:002007-12-29T22:54:00.000-05:00Good article! I had a friend in high school who was very interested in the whole Tocks Island thing, she was much more enlightened than I in those days (probably still is) and I remember her talking about it quite passionately. It makes me realize how difficult it is to get anyone interested in something that doesn’t affect them directly. I’m not sure why she was so moved by the whole situation, but something definitely lit a flame in her heart. Now, so many years later, I understand things a little more deeply both long in the past and here in the present. That’s the product of your research and good writing, so thanks.Billhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04212454613388140604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19217611.post-84244249611958259172007-04-02T13:30:00.000-04:002007-04-02T13:30:00.000-04:00Interesting article and well written. There are several reports of dams deteriorating out in California and the Corps has no plans to repair them. The reports on the rebuilding of the levees in New Orleans are not pretty either. Then look at what happened in the Great Flood of '93. Much of that flooding wouldn't have been as bad if the dams hadn't been there (granted many levees were built before the Corps came in and are/were never under their control).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
